Martin Zerfas President & CEO
Martin Zerfas is a former commercial litigation attorney who was first-chair in over 20 cases in U.S. federal court, specializing in Federal False Claims Act cases and complex international business disputes. He worked in private practice and at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in Washington D.C. Most recently, Mr. Zerfas was the program manager of the international farm animal welfare program at Humane Society International. In that role, he represented the organization at events and meetings in Africa, Europe, North America and Oceania.
In 2013, he received a Presidential Service Award for his work with One Brick, a 501(c)(3). He was also awarded a public service fellowship to work at the National Whistleblower Center in Washington D.C.
He received his J.D. from William & Mary School of Law, his B.A. from Connecticut College, and studied at Oxford University as an undergraduate. In law school, Mr. Zerfas received the CALI Award for the highest exam score in Constitutional Law.
Andrew Lurie Vice President
Andrew Lurie, a licensed attorney, is the former international law and trade specialist at Humane Society International. In this capacity, he advised staff and consultants from dozens of countries and participated in litigation in front of federal and state courts, as well as international tribunals. Mr. Lurie was the Law Clerk to the Honorable Ursula Ungaro, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He also worked in private practice and at the New York office of Goodwin Proctor LLP, where his focus areas included audits and financing transactions.
In law school, he received a Dean's Scholarship based on academic performance and held leadership positions at three legal service organizations. Mr. Lurie also worked on a volunteer or partial-pay basis at the South Brooklyn Legal Services, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i.
He received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law, his B.A. from Stanford University, and studied at American University Center of Provence, Aix-en-Provence, France. An English major, Mr. Lurie graduated from Stanford with distinction and was awarded a major research grant.
